The High Tiber Valley is a kind of gateway between Rome and Europe and is particularly filled with memories of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis loved the area, spending a lot of time visiting his many friends here and, in fact, it was here that he received the Divine Stigmata.
His stories have been handed down from generation to generation and the Saint's name has become part of the stonework of the tiny chapels, the roads, the squares and the many churches that were built following the expansion of the Franciscan Order.
