Anghiari, where the celebrated Battle which took place on the 29th June 1440 between the Milanese (led by the Visconti family) and the Florentine armies (allied to Pope Eugenio 1V), is the birthplace of two celebrated Mercenary captains: Matteo di Antonio Taglieschi (known as Matteo Cane) and Baldaccio Bruni.
The aim of this itinerary is to rediscover these two army characters by visiting their houses, respectively Palazzo Taglieschi, which today houses the Museo Statale which conserves various works of art from the Valterberino area; and the nearby Castello di Sorci where the ghost of Baldaccio, betrayed and subsequently beheaded on the 6th September 1441, is still said to be active.
